Object interaction in games

For this project we were put into groups and asked to experiment with a current or existing technology whilst conducting research for the device we chose. Our group decided to pick the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers, because with these controllers a lot more can be achieved. In the project we needed to focus on one aspect of VR and we felt that object interaction in VR could be improved. Over the weeks we worked on creating a experience, the user could interact with three shapes and combine them to create new objects. Throughout this time we got people to play test this experience so we could see how they interacted with objects, then make the correct changes based on feedback.

What was learnt

  • Working with the Oculus Rift and just playing around with VR.
  • Using Unity to create a prototype game with the Oculus Rift.
  • Playtesting the experience is very important to refine and improve on it.
