Monster Marathon is an application to help detect visual impairments, in this project I worked with a company called Okko Health. The application takes form as an endless runner game, where the objective is to dodge the caters and collect the eyeballs. The game get progressively harder depending on wherever the user can see the caters or not. This is due to stair casing system that helps to keep the player in flow, it keep track of all the data collect on the user and spawns the relevant obstacles. The application will be used by a range of ages, creating a simple to use control system that uses well known phone gesture like, Tapping, Swiping and Holding. In researching pinching and multi touch gesture were a hard to use for children, so we avoided using them.
The final outcomes of this project are not meant to replace a traditional optometrist’s role but to support and engage a wider test group through the use of gamified techniques. These are necessary in order to keep children’s attention long enough to get reliable visual data. Meaning that we can test children at a younger age and it also opens up the opportunity for home monitoring.
